Although it can be daunting to plunge into a home remodel of any kind, in many cases, it’s well worth it to invest in your space. At F&R Interiors serving the greater Los Angeles area, we’ve talked to numerous customers over the years about their remodeling projects, and most of them have been pleased about taking the step to do it. Check out our ideas about a bathroom remodel below—if you’ve been considering that kind of project, perhaps they can help inspire you.

Why Remodel Your Bathroom?

In the construction business, the expression is: “Remodel where the water is.” It makes sense for a lot of reasons. First, remodeling a bathroom (or kitchen) can add value to your home when you look to sell. Or if you’re staying, a remodeled bathroom (or kitchen) can create a more comfortable and enjoyable space to live.

Aspects of the Remodel

Plan for big changes as well as aesthetic components before you start. For example, position your sinks so they’re easily accessible. The most common an versatile type is the porcelain sink, but other styles can add a luxurious look. And plan for your sink accessories so they match and they’re functional. Be sure to leave space for storage such as a closet or large cabinets. When hanging towel bars and mirrors, be sure to decide where to put them early on so that you can add extra blocking where needed before finishing the walls. If you can, mark potential spots with painter’s tape first, then adjust for comfort. Set towel bars at about 48″ and the mirror above the vanity at about 60-66″.

Covering Windows

Some bathrooms don’t have windows, but if yours does, be sure to finish off your remodel with the window treatment that’s sure to match your new aesthetic and give you the right level of light filtering and privacy control. For a classic look, check out Vignette® Modern Roman Shades by Hunter Douglas. If your bathroom has warm tones, select an earth-tone fabric with subtle variations, to pick up the colors in your bath tile and cabinetry. For cool tones, select something from the gray family or slate blue. For something timeless and elegant, consider Hunter Douglas EverWood® Alternative Wood Blinds come in a selection of premium crisp white and off-white colors. They are easy to operate and clean-up is a quick dusting. These blinds hold up beautifully to moisture in a wet room. For something flirty and fun, think about a cute café curtain-style window treatment. Simply place the café curtain on the lower half of the window to ensure privacy while letting in plenty of light.
